How it fits with a database build
Investigation and the database work run together. Building the search is document work; knowing what to look for in it, and following it out into a witness interview or a courthouse record, is investigation. When a question in the database points somewhere the record cannot answer by itself, I am licensed to go find it, and the result comes back into the same file, under one roof, at the direction of counsel.
